Information on Crest:
The shield was granted to Robert Peel of Oswaldthissle in 1792 and thereafter used throughout the family. One of the most prominent was Robert, born in 1750, who was Member of Parliament for Tamworth and created a Baronet in 1800. He died in 1839 and his son the 2nd Baronet, Sir Robert Peel, was the great British statesman and Prime Minister.
This shield has no distinguishing mark for a Baronet and must have been engraved for another memeber of the family. The date of 1812 would be the period when the brothers of Sir Robert Peel, 1st Baronet, were flourishing.
