Duty dodger items have the makers mark struck
four times to replicate full hallmarks. This would
have been done to avoid paying the duty on the silver, maybe used to barter, give as
presents or for the makers own use.

John Cory was born in Warminster, Wiltshire in 1665 and was admitted to the Goldsmith's Company by patrimony in 1687. John carried on his father's business in Warminster after Thomas Cory's death in 1689.
