The knob on the Bowl’s lid is the St Edward crown as used in the early badges of the original North West Mounted Police.

The relief frieze surrounding the bowl in 7 panels depicts: The first Commissioner, George French, leading his troops across the country in 1874; departure from Fort Dufferin, 8 July 1874; Manhandling guns on Pembina Mountains; Wagons fording Belly River; Assistant Commissioner Macleod and expedition passing Sioux camp; Food supplies almost exhausted and shooting bison; Fort Whoop-Up and Macleod finally meets Chief Crowfoot.

(I believe that less than 300 were actually produced)
