Contemporary Designer Silversmiths
Olivia Lowe grew up in Surrey where, upon discovering her love of working in metal, she moved to High Wycombe in 2001 to study Metalwork and Jewellery (BA Hons) at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, followed by an MA at The Royal College of Art in London. On completing her MA in 2006, Olivia returned to her hometown of Farnham to set up her studio, from where she designs and makes the sculptural silver vases for which she has become known.Olivia’s work explores the relationship between natural objects such as flowers, and the contrasting qualities of silver, bringing the two together to create a single display piece, where both elements are of equal visual importance. With a love of working in metal and the control it gives you over the form of an object, Olivia finds that designing and working with the crisp yet gentle qualities of silver enables her to express her awareness of objects in their environment and the interest she has towards the visual interpretation of objects by people. Olivia enjoys the challenge of finding a new way for silver to fulfil a conventional purpose, by taking a fresh approach to the requirements of a domestic object. She has recieved many bursaries and awards and exhibited widely including Goldsmiths Hall, the V & A Museum and Lesley Craze Gallery in London. She was featured in the BBC Homes and Antiques magazine in December 2007.
