STANLEY MORRIS was born in 1919; a student at the Birmingham School of Jewellery and Silversmithing then the Birmingham College of Arts and Crafts, winning a number of competitions and scholarships. In 1947 he opened his own workshop in St Alfred's Place, Birmingham and also taught part time at the BSJS and at Walsall School of Art. He assisted Bernard Cuzner make the Olympic Torch that Cuzner had designed for the 1948 London Olympic Games. A fine craftsman he received commissions from Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge Universities; Civic Plate for Birmingham and in 1965 made an architectural model of the Birmingham Post & Mail Bulding for its opening. He made a fine 12 inch tall silver Standing Salt for the Salters Company in 1951 from a design by Cyril Shiner. His workshop was demolished in the late 1980's to make way for the Birmingham Symphony Hall and he retired to Willersley, Worcestershire where he was still working in 2009. He always had a chip on his shoulder about the lack of recognition from the Goldsmiths' Company
