Robert Welch was commissioned in 1985 by Donald McFall to create a range of cutlery for Shetland Silvercraft. They were not doing well from their small workshop in Shetland so Robert went out there and spent time in the local museum to get design ideas to keep them going.
In 1989 he designed some modern jewellery for them using the spiral forms found in ancient Celtic metalwork.
