Karina Gill Contemporary Silver Items for Sale

KARINA GILL studied at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham where she gained her BA (Hons) in 3 Dimensional Design in metal work.
Since completing her degree in 1996 she has built up her business from her workshop in Dorset where she designs and makes her etched silver bowls, spoons and sculptural pieces. Karina's work has been influenced by colour, texture and repetition, and her organic and geometric forms are hammered and manipulated by hand in silver.
She enjoys creating warm decorative items from cold, hard sheet metal. Conjured and cajoled from cold, hard sheets of metal, Karina Gill's decorative and intriguingly sensitive work is full of contradictions.
Working in silver, yet rooted in textile, Karina draws influence from nature's patterns and organic repetition to create a heavily textured yet delicate surface through the process of acid etching.
Playing both with surface and form, Karina's three-dimensional objects seem to magic themselves out of the flat surface. Yet the magic lies in their creation: The single, two-dimensional textured sheet of metal, is hand-sculpted, hammered, folded and manipulated to cleverly create a final, geometric bowl, which intrigues us through its apparent solidity and tactile surface.
