Ralph Weston traded as Kells Gold & Silversmiths from Grape Lane, Whitby, Yorkshire
Weston's original advertising leaflet for these spoons said: BLUE JOHN - Derbyshire's own gemstones - Blue John is one of the world's rarest minerals found only at Castleton in Derbyshire. 14 veins are known although few of these are mined today. This beautiful gemstone is reputed to have been used as far back as Roman times for making vases and ornaments, examples of which can be seen in the geological museum, London |

Richard designed this service 'Abovo' as a 7 piece place setting while at the Royal College of Art. Despite orders from leading stores for a stainless steel version, he could not find finance for the tooling, only the production costs. He did make a few sets in silver, one for an experimental auction of contemporary silver in the late 1980's. He was pleased when this achieved £5000 as they normally retailed for about £3000 at the time.
