The rose, our national symbol and a flower very dear to the Queen Mother, is the principal inspiration for the design by Hector Miller. The variety chosen is the Sweet Brier, or Eglantine, one of the most treasured of the native plants of our English countryside and beloved of generations of poets. Her Majesty's personal Coat of Arms, which combines the royal Arms with those of her family, Bowes Lyon, is depicted with her express approval.
