Esther Lord
ESTHER LORD's work is an exploration of containment and volume, light and surface pattern, used to create unique, handcrafted silver vessels and tableware. "By highlighting the play of light and shadow over angular, folded surfaces, overlapping planes and transposed layers, and combining this with subtle texturing, I aim to create dynamic pieces which accentuate the inherent beauty and wonderful versatility of silver." Esther has recently re-located her workshop to Maws Craft Centre, Jackfield, in Shropshire; part of the Ironbridge gorge, an area which has World Heritage Site status. She is a visiting lecturer at the BIAD School of Jewellery, part of Birmingham City University. She has won numerous awards including the 2006 Goldsmiths Company Silver Award, 2007 British Jewellers Association Design Award, and in 2011 she won the silver Award in the category of Design in the The Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council's Craftsmanship & Design Awards.
