Five sculpted figures adorn the goblet: St Wilfred, the founder; St Peter, the patron saint; Charles Longley, the first Bishop of the new diocese and later Archbishop of York and Canterbury; King James I, the benefactor who restored the revenues taken by Henry VIII and Walter de Grey, the great builder. All figures were sculpted by Tim Minett from stone sculptures in the Cathedral except for Archbishop de Grey, taken from a 13th Century portrayal at York Minster.
The Queen was presented with number 1 by the Lord Bishop on her visit for the Maundy Service on 4th April 1985
