The heavy cast Mermaid handle is very reminiscent of the work of Eric Gill
Alfred Charles Pruden (1906-74) known as 'Dunstan' studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Early in his career he made up a lot of designs by H G Murphy, including a processional crucifix for Lichfield Cathedral. Much of his own later work was ecclesiastical. He entered a Guild at Ditchling with Eric Gill. He taught at Brighton College of Art and counted Gerald Benney and Anthony Elson among his pupils. His grandson Anton Pruden continues the tradition in Ditchling.
