Peter says that the design for this commission was based on a Misericord in Lincoln Cathedral. (A Misericord, sometimes named mercy seat, like the Biblical object, is a small wooden structure formed on the underside of a folding seat in a church which, when the seat is folded up, is intended to act as a shelf to support a person in a partially standing position during long periods of prayer)
Peter undertook a pre-apprenticeship course at the Central School of Arts and Crafts 1962-3 then apprenticed to Norman Bassant at C J Vander 1963-7. He then studied at Hornsey College of Art 1967-70 before working with Louis Osman. He then set up his own workshop in Old Street, London in 1972 where he continued to do outwork for Louis Osman and Malcolm Appleby, the latter favouring him as his silversmith of choice. Hector Miller used his workshop while studying at the RCA and they entered a joint mark for a church commission at Wool, in Dorset. Peter has also been a technician-lecturer at the RCA
