This design was initially part of a commission from Heal's for a new range to be displayed in their 'Present Choice' department in 1963. To keep the retail price affordable it was made using lathe spinning rather than hand hammering. Because the range was seen as one of the finst examples of British craftsmanship, several items were commissioned by Harold Wilson's government as state gifts; including a persent for the Russian government in 1967.
