The Harlequin Trophy was designed by Alex Styles in 1969 to be awarded at the BAFTAs for the best children's entertainment programme on TV, commissioned by Rediffusion Television. In 1973 it was won by Peter Plummer, the writer for the series 'The Intruder'.

The 1969 trophy is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue for the Alex Styles Retrospective, held at Goldsmiths Hall in 1987.
