DAVID MELLOR had graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1954 and was appointed a design consultant for WALKER & HALL. Professor ROBERT GOODEN, Head of Silver & Jewellery at the Royal College of Art who had taught MELLOR, considered this appointment to be the highlight of the mid 1950's.
David Mellor’s iconic ‘Pride’ cutlery was designed in 1953 while Mellor was still a student at the RCA and has been in continuous production ever since.
Included in the very first Design Centre Awards in 1957 it is on display in numerous collections around the world as a prime example of 20th century modernist design.
Originally made by Walker & Hall, it is now produced by David Mellor themselves.
