Katey Felton graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2000 with a degree in Jewellery and followed this with a Master’s degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 2001. She started working at Yorkshire Artspace in the Persistence Works in Sheffield in 2002, perfecting her techniques with mentoring advice from Brett Payne and other well-established silversmiths.

Katey’s signature work involved chasing, especially in curved form, and she developed this technique to a very high standard, with each piece individually hand-formed. She was awarded Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship and Design Awards for three consecutive years - in 2007, 2008 and 2009 - for her high standards of excellence in the technique of chasing. She worked predominantly in the higher standard of Britannia silver. She had many prestigious commissions from individual and corporate clients including the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire (Chatsworth House), the Sheffield Assay Office and the National Trust.

These goblets were illustrated in the Goldsmiths’ Fair catalogue of 2006, and one of them was used again (in the hands of a model) on the cover of the catalogue for the Goldsmiths’ Fair in 2007.

We were fortunate to be able to exhibit her work in 2009. Katey died in 2021
